Counter-Strike 2 wish list: What the players want

Frizby

March 21, 2023

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive lacks many features, but dedicated players have been grateful. Years ago, players had made peace with Valve’s silence. But, reports claim that the developer’s disregard for minor bugs was due to Counter-Strike 2’s development. Why waste energy on an old game if you will release a new one, anyway? Makes sense.

But, now players are curious about what exactly Valve is cooking. Since the leaks hit the internet, players have prepared their own wish lists, sharing them on social media. Some are Fanciful, but most lists look the same.

Counter-Strike 2 needs these five features

After looking at dozens of Counter-Strike 2 wish lists, we have concluded that an average player wants the same five things.

Kernel anti-cheat

Counter-Strike’s cheating issues have been well-documented, and so is Valve’s disregard. Every once in a while, the developer does a cheater wipe-out, which won’t be required if CSGO has a decent anti-cheat. Unfortunately, despite being known solely for its competitive value, CSGO has a terrible anti-cheat program.

Poor anti-cheat is the top reason CSGO players hate official MM. The developer must introduce kernel-level anti-cheat to prevent this pest from funneling into Counter-Strike 2. A program that digs deep into the system and detects advanced cheating software. If Valve sticks with the same anti-cheat as CSGO, the chances of Counter-Strike 2 flopping are high.

128-tick servers

One of the most significant flaws in CSGO in 2023 is its 64-tick rate. Casual players may not care about it, but serious CSGO players have long moved to FACEIT for a better competitive experience. Therefore, if Valve wants Counter-Strike 2 to succeed, it must update the server tick rate.

A tick measures how often the server updates the game world. For example, in CSGO, a tick rate of 128 means that the server updates the game world 128 times per second. This is twice the tick rate of the standard 64-tick servers. The higher the tick rate, the more frequently the server updates the game world, resulting in smoother and more accurate gameplay.

A 128-tick server provides a more precise representation of the game world and player actions than a 64-tick server. This is particularly important in a game like CSGO, where every millisecond counts. With a 128-tick server, players can react more quickly to events in the game, and their actions are more accurately reflected in the game world.

In-game inventory management

CSGO has exquisite skins, but the in-game inventory could be better—an option to create a list of favorite items or organize your own folders would be an incredible addition.

Currently, players have limited options to organize their inventory, making it difficult to find and equip the items they want quickly. One potential solution to this problem would be to add an option for players to create personalized folders or favorite items lists within their inventory. This would allow players to easily categorize and access their favorite skins, weapons, and gear without sifting through a cluttered and disorganized list.

In CSGO, All inventories look the same, which can be boring for skin collectors. Instead, Valve should introduce an equally fancy inventory for its costly skins.

Matchmaking overhaul

CSGO has many flaws, and a poor MatchMaking system tops our list. Besides hackers, a poor rank ladder is one of the many reasons players move to third-party platforms like ESEA or FACEIT. The competition is much better when players are aware of the goals. For example, FACEIT has a clear red bar that shows progress, helping players to outline their rank journey.

CSGO’s vague rank-up causes unknown delays in progress, leading players to lose motivation. This is something that Valve may change in Counter-Strike 2 by introducing a transparent progress bar.

Battle pass system

CSGO has an operation pass, which is a massive success. Whenever Valve rolls out a new token, the in-game player count skyrockets. Such is the impact of operations. Unfortunately, Valve has no set date or schedule for these passes, so players are left calculating and speculating.

If Counter-Strike 2 has a set schedule for a battle pass, let’s say one in two months, it would heavily change gaming habits among the players. They may play more, resulting in a consistent player count. Not just that, CS players love good skin. A battle pass in Counter-Strike 2 would have the insane potential for high revenue, benefiting the developer.

These, and more, are some of the few things that players want to see in Counter-Strike 2. Not only are these five features highly-requested, but they are indirectly the key to boosted revenue for Valve and to Counter-Strike 2’s success.
