Almost two months after the release of the Fontaine region, Genshin Impact has rolled out a new patch. In the first phase of patch 4.1. players obtained one of the first characters introduced in the Fontaine arc. Neuvillette, the Iudex of Fontaine, has quickly become a fan favorite. If you want to add this amazing five-star DPS to your team, you can learn about his skill set, best build, and team compilations in this guide.
SKILLS AND TALENTS
Neuvillette is a five-star Hydro catalyst user. His primary role is on-field DPS, whose main specialty is his charged attack. Like all characters from Fontaine, he possesses an innate Arkhe alignment, aligning some of his attacks with Pneuma. What makes Neuvillette stand out as a DPS is the utility of his charged attack. This makes him perfect for providing constant damage since he doesn’t rely on his burst and elemental skill’s cooldowns. To gain the most out of Neuvillette’s skillset, it’s important to understand how to combine his attacks. When damaging an opponent with his Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst, Sourcewater Droplets will form on the field. These Sourcewater Droplets will buff Neuvillette’s charged attack. This is the attack you will use most often, so it’s important to set it up properly. Therefore, to best grasp how to use Neuvillette’s unique skillset, we will finish this list with his most important attack.
Neuvillette’s Elemental Skill, “O Tears, I Shall Repay,” deals AoE Hydro damage, creating 3 Sourcewater Droplets on the field. In addition to that, his Elemental Skill can deal Pneuma-aligned Hydro damage, summoning a Spiritbreath Thorn at certain intervals.
His Elemental Burst, “O Tides, I Have Returned”, deals Hydro damage in a large AoE. After a few seconds, another two attacks will be unleashed, dealing Hydro damage in a smaller AoE. Neuvillette’s Elemental Burst will create 6 Sourcewater Droplets on the field. Neuvillette’s Elemental Burst scales off of his max HP. This is important to keep in mind while organizing his artifacts. We will talk about this more in the next paragraph.
Neuvillette’s Normal Attack, “As Water Seeks Equilibrium”, deals three consecutive Hydro attacks. However, the most important attack you will use with Neuvillette is his charged attack, “Equitable Judgement”. While charging up the attack, Neuvillette will form a Seal of Arbitration. Once the seal has formed, he will unleash a powerful ranged Hydro attack. While unleashing his charged attack, Neuvillette can move freely. While charging up the attack, Neuvillette will also absorb any Sourcewater Droplets on the field. Remember that while using his charged attack, Neuvillette will lose HP. However, each Sourcewater Droplet he absorbs will heal him and speed up the formation of the Seal of Arbitration. To get the most out of his charged attack, set up his attacks in the correct order so you can have the most Sourcewater Droplets on the field.
Neuvillette’s passives enhance his appeal as a DPS and make him great for underwater exploring around Fontaine.
His first ascension passive, “Heir to the Ancient Sea’s Authority,” relies on triggering elemental reactions like Vaporize, Hydro Swirl, Frozen, Electro-Charged, Bloom, or Hydro Crystalize. Triggering these reactions grants Neuvillette one stack of Past Draconic Glories, maxing out at three stacks. Past Draconic Glories enhance the damage to 110%, 125%, or 160% of the original damage of his charged attack, based on the number of stacks. Keep in mind that stacks created by unique elemental reactions exist independently. Therefore, creating teams that rely on one elemental reaction to make the most out of his damage output would be useful.
His fourth ascension passive, “Discipline of the Supreme Arbitration,” grants Neuvillette an additional 0.6% of Hydro DMG Bonus for each 1% of Neuvillette’s current HP greater than 30% of his Max HP. This bonus maxes out at 30%. Since Neuvillette loses HP while performing his charged attack, it’s important to have a great healer like Kokomi or Baizhu on your team.
BEST ARTIFACTS AND WEAPONS FOR NEUVILLETTE
Since most of Neuvillette’s damage output relies on his charged attack, the best artifact set for him is the 4-piece Marechaussee Hunter. Not only does this set increase his charged attack damage by 15%, but it also increases his Crit Rate by up to 36%. Another great pick for Neuvillette is the 4-piece Heart of Depth that increases his normal and charged attack damage by 30% for 15 seconds. When picking his artifact set, make sure you pick artifacts that grant him HP, Hydro DMG, Crit DMG, and Crit Rate bonuses.
The obvious best weapon choice for Neuvillette is his signature weapon, Tome Of The Eternal Flow. This weapon grants Neuvillette additional crit, charged attack damage, and an HP bonus. If you haven’t gotten your hands on his signature weapon, do not fret. There are many great F2P options you can equip your Neuvillette with.
If you took part in the 4.1. update event “Waterborne Poetry”, you got your hands on the exclusive 4-star catalyst Ballad of the Boundless Blue. Once it reaches refinement rank 5, Ballad of the Boundless Blue increases Neuvillette’s normal attack damage by 16% and his charged attack damage by 12%. In addition to that, it grants Neuvillette a nice energy recharge bonus.
If you’ve missed out on the 4.1. update event, another great option is the craftable 4-star Prototype Amber. It regenerates four energy every two seconds for six seconds. In addition, Prototype Amber heals its wielder which works great with Neuvillette’s fourth ascension passive.
TEAM COMPS
Neuvillette’s damage output relies greatly on the elemental reactions you trigger on the field. As previously mentioned, your playstyle will most involve using his charged attack. It’s important to have a good shielder on your team so that the charging of his attack doesn’t get interrupted.
One of the best team comps for Neuvillette right now is the Taser team comp that uses Yae Miko, Kazuha, and Zhongli. Yae Miko acts as his sub-DPS, who can easily apply Electro off-field while producing a decent amount of damage. This will make you reap the benefits of Neuvillette’s first ascension passive, buffing his charged attack. Yae Miko can be exchanged for Fischl, who will bring the same benefits to your team, albeit with a slightly smaller damage percentage. Kazuha is one of the best support characters who can buff the whole team while providing great crowd control. This makes it easier for Neuvillette to utilize his attacks without moving around the field too much. Kazuha can be exchanged for Venti or Sucrose, whereas Zhongli can be exchanged for Layla, making this team comp budget-friendly and effective. In addition to Layla’s shielding abilities, she can also use her burst for additional Frozen elemental reactions.
Neuvillette also works great in Hyperbloom teams. In this case, you can stick with Yae Miko, Fischl, or Raiden Shogun for Electro elemental reactions. Baizhu works great in this team since he can heal, shield, and provide certain buffs to the whole team. Baizhu can be exchanged for Kirara. However, her Dendro application at C0 is not as good as Baizhu’s. The last slot in this team should be filled out by any Anemo character that can offer great crowd control, like Kazuha, Venti, or Sucrose.
All in all, Neuvillette is an amazing character whose unique abilities make him a fantastic DPS. When building your Neuvillette, the most important thing is to focus on his charged attack as well as his unique passive talents.
