On September 28th and 29th of 2024, Raidiant hosted Series 3 of its Rocket League event, Star Chasers Showdown, presented by Ally.
Star Chasers is a quarterly competition that takes the brightest up-and-coming stars from North America and Europe to face off in attempts to crown the best women’s team in each reason. These teams are vying for a share of the $75,000 prize pool!
The Group Stage
Series 3 of the event featured eight teams split into two groups of four. These teams were set in a round-robin style tournament where the winner was determined out of the best of five matches. After the first-round matches, the teams who placed third and fourth were eliminated. This left the top four to duke it out in a single elimination bracket in a best-of-seven ranking to determine the winner. After the smoke cleared, G2 Stride Luna stood victorious.
The first round consisted of two groups. Group A comprised 12 Bricks, Verum Momentum, Pulse Clan WCB, and Chimken Numget. Group B comprised G2 Stride Luna, Gen G. Mobil 1 Racing Black, Schminklet’s Warriors, and Torchics. 12 Bricks and Verum Momentum both moved on from Group A, while the winners of Group B were Gen.G Mobil 1 Racing Black, and G2 Stride Luna.
G2 Stride Luna managed to beat each team in their pool. They bested both Schminklet’s Warriors and Torchics with a 3:0 win and defeated Gen.G Mobil 1 Racing Black in a nail-biting 3:2 showdown.
Playoffs
After advancing to the semi-finals, G2 Stride Luna faced Verum Momentum from Group A. To advance, it would need to best its opponent in best-of-seven matches. With precision teamwork, Luna gained the upper hand in an astonishing 4:0 victory.
In the finals, Luna was up for a rematch against the only team that managed to win against it in the group stage – Gen.G Mobil 1 Raving Black. It all came down to this. Whoever could take down their opponent in the best of seven matches would go on to claim victory. After six intense rounds, four of which went into overtime, G2 Stride Luna achieved gold!
What was G2 Stride Luna?
G2 Stride Luna was a professional esports team composed of Avenger, Karma, and Talliebird.
The team was formed on May 31st, 2023. The initial team that made up G2 Luna was Karma, Avenger, and Kiaa. On October 18th of that same year, the team would officially welcome their coach – Ryuu. The team struggled to place at first, but eventually started making waves during the GIRLGAMER Esports Festival in Atlanta in 2023 when it placed 3rd in the Qualifier and ended up coming in 4th overall. In February of 2024, Talliebird would officially join the team as Kiaa exited.
What’s Next
While the team was expected to return to the All-Stars showdown event taking place on November 2nd and 3rd of 2024, it was unable to do so. In a statement shared by G2 CEO Alban Dechelotte on October 26th, he announced the G2 NA Rocket League organization was in jeopardy unless a new partner was found.
Sadly, G2 announced just a few days later, on October 31st, that it was parting ways with G2 Luna.
All Stars
While the team may have split, one of the Luna players would still appear in All-Stars.
The 2024 Star Chaser series ended with the Ally All-Stars 2024 event. It was an All-Star format where women pros, prominent content creators, and top RLCS & CRL pros were granted an exclusive invite to a live broadcast draft followed by a competitive tournament.
Karma joined the Ally All-Stars event and was selected as the captain of one of the eight teams, selecting Emma and TriHouse to join her team. Team Karma went up against Team Emi in the first game of the upper bracket and was unfortunately met with defeat in a 0:3 run, only managing to score a single goal in round 2 against their opponent.
Once in the lower brackeBracket went up against Team Nacho, where they fought back and forth for victory. Team Nacho would eventually claim victory in round five. Team Karma was officially knocked out in a 2:3 loss.
G2 Stride Luna may have disbanded, but we will hopefully see these excellent gamers again as time passes.
