Baizhu is the newest playable five-star character added to Genshin Impact. What makes Baizhu so sought after is the fact that, just like Scaramouche, he is one of the characters introduced in Liyue’s archon quest. The charming herbalist doctor was, however, released in patch 3.6, and many long-time fans didn’t wait a minute to add him to their roster. If you’re a fan of the newest five-star Dendro catalyst healer, here are some tips on building him and his best team comps and weapons.
SKILLS AND TALENTS
Baizhu owns Bubu Pharmacy in Liyue and has finally been released as a playable five-star character. He is a catalyst user, and his main team role is healer. Besides his healing abilities, Baizhu can generate a shield that can stop some interruptions. However, the downside of the shield is that it isn’t resistant to bigger hits, so it won’t be that important in your gameplay.
Baizhu’s Normal Attack, “The Classics of Acupuncture,” deals four consecutive Dendro attacks. The charged attack consumes a certain amount of Stamina to deal AoE Dendro DMG to opponents in front of him. Since you normally wouldn’t use your Baizhu as a DMG dealer, his normal attack won’t be that important to your gameplay. It can, however, easily apply the Dendro element, which can be useful if you’re running any Dendro elemental reaction team compilation.
Baizhu’s Elemental Skill, “Universal Diagnosis,” is his second most important skill. It controls a Gossamer sprite that flies away and attacks nearby enemies up to three times, dealing Dendro damage and healing on its way back. Baizhu’s healing percentage scales off of his max HP. To maximize this effect, you will have to choose weapons and artifacts carefully. This is something we’ll touch on in the next paragraph.
Baizhu’s Elemental Burst, “Holistic Revivification,” is his most important skill. Every 2.5 seconds, his elemental burst will generate a seamless shield that absorbs Dendro damage with 250% effectiveness. The seamless shield will also heal your active character and deal some Dendro damage to nearby opponents if your character is under the protection of one shield when another one is generated, or when your shield is shattered or expires. His burst, just like his elemental skill, scales with his max HP.
Another important thing to keep in mind is Baizhu’s passive effects.
The first one, “Five Fortunes Forever,” allows Baizhu to gain two different effects, depending on the HP of the rest of your team. If your team’s HP equals or exceeds 50%, Baizhu will gain a 25% Dendro DMG bonus. Since you probably won’t be using your Baizhu as a damage dealer, this effect won’t be as useful as the second one, but it can offer a nice boost to your overall damage. In the end, the effectiveness of this passive will depend on how you choose to build your Baizhu. If your team’s HP is under 50%, Baizhu will gain a 20% healing bonus. This is a great passive that will help you heal your whole team quickly.
Baizhu’s second passive, “All Things Are of the Earth,” is what makes him a great support in Dendro elemental reaction teams. Characters who are healed by his seamless shields, generated by his elemental burst, will gain the Year of Verdant Favor effect. Just like his skill and burst, this effect scales off his max HP. For every 1000 HP Baizhu has, your characters will gain a 2% damage boost for Burning, Bloom, Hyperbloom, and Burgeon reactions, or a 0.8% DMG bonus for Aggravate or Spread reactions.
“Herbal Nourishment,” his final and most interesting passive, allows Baizhu to heal by picking up certain harvestable plants, in true herbologist fashion. Not only is this passive innovative and fun, but it makes Baizhu a great character for exploring since he can heal your team without much effort.
BEST ARTIFACTS AND WEAPONS FOR BAIZHU
Since almost all of Baizhu’s power lies in his HP levels, it is important to build his artifact set accordingly. The best artifact set you can choose for Baizhu is the 4-piece Deepwood Memories artifact set. This set will not only allow you to build your max HP, but it is a must-have in any Dendro team since it decreases the opponent’s Dendro RES. The downside of this artifact set for other Dendro users is that it doesn’t offer much of an ATK boost, so equipping it on Baizhu gives you a chance to pick a more aggressive artifact set for your DPS. This 4-piece artifact set is best if you’re running a Dendro DPS like Alhaitham or someone who can provide you with good elemental reactions like Cyno or Ayato.
Other options for Baizhu are the 2-piece Ocean Hued Clam, which can offer you a healing boost and some energy recharge. You can also use the 2-piece Tenacity of the Milelith or Emblem of Sever Fate to cover your extra health and energy recharge needs. While picking your artifacts, pay attention to the sub-stats as well, making sure you pick the ones that give your more HP, since this will boost both your elemental skill and burst, as well as your passive.
Regarding the best weapons for Baizhu, the obvious first choice is his signature weapon, Jadefall’s Splendor, which restores your energy and gives you a DMG boost. The most important attribute of this weapon is that it gives you a bonus HP percentage, which can further boost your skill, burst, and passive.
However, Baizhu’s signature weapon doesn’t impact his gameplay that much and it’s just a minor upgrade from the free-to-play, craftable 4-star weapon Prototype Amber. This weapon offers all of the same stats as the Jadefall’s Splendor, albeit with a slightly smaller HP percentage bonus. If you don’t have either of those, the 4-star Favonious Codex is always a good pick since it offers a decent amount of Energy Recharge.
TEAM COMPS
Since Baizhu is a healer whose passives play best in Dendro elemental reaction teams, it’s best to pick a team that benefits from his buffs. One of the best teams for Baizhu is the Aggravate-Hyperbloom team, which consists of Cyno, Xingqiu, and Nahida.
Baizhu and Nahida will give you Dendro elemental resonance “Sprawling Greenery,” which will boost your team’s Elemental Mastery by 50. In addition to this, activating any Dendro elemental reaction will give the party an additional Elemental Mastery bonus for a short period of time. In this team, you can use your Xingqiu for the Hydro application and set up the stage for your Cyno as the main DPS.
If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly version of this team comp, you can switch out Nahida for the Dendro traveler. Cyno can be replaced by any other Electro DPS like Kequing or Lisa, and Mona can replace Xingqiu’s Hydro application.
Another great character to pair with Baizhu is Alhaitham, a Dendro DPS. Not only do the two grant you the Dendro elemental resonance, but running Deepowood Memories on your Baizhu allows you to build your Alhaitham with a more aggressive artifact set. Alhaitham is a great DPS whose large AoE and Dendro DMG pair great with Baizhu’s buffs. The other two spots on this team should be filled by characters that can help make elemental reactions for an added DMG bonus.
All in all, Baizhu is an amazing healer when built correctly. Not only can he keep your team alive, but his skills offer a lot of boosts to the rest of your team. This makes him a great, well-rounded support character. If you were thinking of adding Baizhu to your character roster, he is a great support that does not disappoint.
