March 21, 2026
The VCT Game Changers 2026 North America Kickoff wrapped up at the end of February, setting the tone for the rest of the competitive season. As expected, the event brought together a mix of established contenders and rising rosters, all looking to set the tone early in the season.
The tournament followed the usual Riot pipeline, starting with open qualifiers in early February, then narrowing to a closed qualifier, and eventually to the main event bracket.
The main event ran from February 20 to March 1, featuring a double-elimination format that allowed teams to recover from early setbacks while still rewarding consistent performance. As the bracket progressed, upper bracket runs highlighted teams with strong preparation and coordination, while the lower bracket became a proving ground for squads forced to adapt quickly or risk elimination.
By the time the grand finals arrived, the field had been reduced to the most reliable performers of the tournament. Familiar names once again found themselves deep in the bracket, but newer teams also showed enough resilience to stay competitive, particularly through lower-bracket pushes.
The result was a playoff stage that not only reflected expected outcomes at the top but also hinted at a more competitive field developing just behind them as the season moves forward.
Game Changers 2026 North America Kickoff recap
The grand final featured FlyQuest RED against Blue Otter GC, a matchup that felt fitting given both teams’ form throughout the bracket. The best-of-five series ended in a 3–1 victory for FlyQuest RED, but the scoreline doesn’t fully capture how the series played out.
The opening map on Split was tightly contested and set the tone for a competitive start, while Pearl quickly swung in FlyQuest’s favor as they found more control in both pacing and site execution.
Blue Otter responded on Breeze with a strong showing to keep the series alive, with Avery delivering insane impact. The pro player posted 2.1 KD on map 3 with 237 ADS as one of the star players on Blue Otter, but it wasn’t enough to convert the series into a win.

The final map on Bind saw FlyQuest regain control and close things out with confidence. This was all thanks to FLYQuest’s Evv and MelyaFPS, who came into clutch the rounds that ended up being the game-changers on Split.
While the grand final took most of the spotlight, the rest of the bracket had its own standout runs. 100 Thieves GC managed a solid top-four finish with a consistent upper bracket showing before dropping out, while Wadadaa built momentum through the lower bracket with a series of clutch-heavy performances.
Starbound, in particular, stood out for Wadadaa, repeatedly stepping up in high-pressure moments and converting rounds that had no business being won.
However, when it came down to facing Blue Otter GC, Wadadaa couldn’t quite match the pace, with Blue Otter’s structure and individual firepower proving too much to overcome on their path to the grand final.
Stream and co-stream highlights
The event was broadcast across official VCT channels, with co-streams adding another layer to how viewers followed the matches. While the main broadcast carried the core production, co-streams kept the event active across different parts of the community, especially on longer playoff days.
Viewership peaked at 2,518 concurrent viewers, with the event totaling 28,730 hours watched. Rather than relying on one central stream, the coverage felt more spread out, with co-streams offering alternative reactions, pacing, and perspectives during key matches. As one of the most-talked-about Valorant events online, the NA Kickoff certainly went beyond numbers in terms of impact.
That balance became more noticeable as the bracket progressed, where tighter series and elimination matches naturally drew more attention. Co-streams didn’t just mirror the main broadcast; they added to it, giving viewers multiple ways to experience the same moments as the tournament progressed.
For a “kickoff” event, it did its job. Set the tone, draw the lines, and remind everyone who actually showed up prepared for 2026.
