All the way from sunny California, this Angeleno joins the Valorant fray. However, this agent did not come along. His buddies, Dizzy, Wingman, Mosh Pit, and Thrash, came along for the ride. Each of these creatures comes with a different ability to help Gekko delay enemy pushes in unique ways.
While this agent may be easy to learn, he could be tough to master. While he is an initiator like Kay/O, Sova, Skye, Breach, and Fade, his abilities are more about tenderizing the enemy for easy picks than they are about gathering intel. You can still get good information if you play your cards right, so this makes Gekko a good versatile agent for those who like to switch between aggressive and defensive play.
This guide will help run through Gekko’s utility, so you can familiarize yourself with his playstyle and decide what works best for you.
Wingman (Q Ability)
EQUIP Wingman FIRE to send Wingman forward seeking enemies. Wingman unleashes a concussive blast toward the first enemy he sees. ALT FIRE when targeting a Spike site or planted Spike to have Wingman defuse or plant the Spike. To plant, Gekko must have the Spike in his inventory. When Wingman expires, he reverts into a dormant globule INTERACT to reclaim the globule and gain another Wingman charge after a short cooldown.
Gekko’s Wingman ability may be the ability to set him apart from any other agent. With the ability to send out Wingman to plant or defuse spike, it makes for some great plays. This eliminates some of the threats of planting. If Wingman is taken out, you can try to pick off the enemy while they are aiming at the utility, or you can reposition yourself to try and take the enemy by surprise if they push further in.
When Wingman is not planting or defusing spike, the utility can also be used as a concussive blast. This can be used to stall enemy pushes or disrupt enemies that may be waiting in a corner. Sending out Wingman ahead of time is a good way to check corners to make for a safer push.
Like most of Gekko’s abilities, Wingman can also be collected for an extra charge. Unlike most agent abilities, where you can buy an extra charge in the store, Gekko requires you to go and collect the globule left behind after your utility makes an action. Collecting the globule will give you a second chance to use the utility after a brief cooldown. Be strategic before running in to collect Wingman’s globule, as it does take a few seconds to collect and also gives off an auditory cue.
Dizzy (E Ability)
EQUIP Dizzy FIRE to send Dizzy soaring forward through the air. Dizzy charges and then unleashes plasma blasts at enemies in line of sight. Enemies hit by her plasma are blinded. When Dizzy expires, she reverts into a dormant globule. INTERACT to reclaim the globule and gain another Dizzy charge after a short cooldown.
Dizzy isn’t your everyday blind. Once you toss this buddy up in the air, he will scan the location and blind any opponent for a brief period of time if they are unlucky enough to get caught in its line of sight. The thing that sets Dizzy apart from other blinds though, is that even if an opponent looks away from her, Dizzy will still blind them. Dizzy is good for intel. Once she shoots her lasers, you can follow the beam down to see where spotted enemies are lurking.
Using Dizzy is an excellent way to catch your opponents off guard, as they will only have two options. Their first option is to wait out the blind, which only lasts a brief moment, or they can take Dizzy out to prevent the blind. If opponents choose to take Dizzy out, this will leave them vulnerable – open to attack. So, it is best to lob Dizzy up as high as possible to distract your opponents. While they’re looking up focused on Dizzy, you can move in for an easy pick.
Like Wingman, you can only purchase one Dizzy charge. However, after using Dizzy in the field, you can collect the globule for an extra use after a short cooldown.
Mosh Pit (C Ability)
Using Mosh is a great way to slow enemies from pushing. Use Mosh in entry points to prevent enemies from rushing. Since it covers a very large area, they will have to either wait out the explosion or rotate to another entry point.
This can also be used on defense to delay a defuse, but there is a delay from when Mosh is thrown to when it detonates, so timing is everything with this ability.
Thrash (X Ability / Ultimate)
EQUIP Thrash FIRE to link with Thrash’s mind and steer her through enemy territory. ACTIVATE to lunge forward and explode, detaining any enemies in a small radius. When Thrash expires she reverts into a dormant globule. INTERACT to reclaim the globule and gain another Thrash charge after a short cooldown. Thrash can be reclaimed once.
Like Killjoy’s Ult, Gekko has the ability to detain enemies. Unlike Killjoy’s Ult, however, Gekko’s Ult is mobile. Once activated, you can steer Thrash to try and find enemies. If anyone is unlucky enough to be found, you can lunge to stun and detain them for around six seconds which gives your team more than enough time to push them and end their round early.
With Thrash’s speed, it can cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time, and with 200 health, once you spot an enemy with Thrash, the chances are high that you will be able to stun them before they have the chance to cancel the Ult.
Like some of Gekko’s other abilities, after Thrash is used, it will revert to a globule state. This means you can reclaim it for a second chance at using the ability.
Tips and Tricks
- Wingman is best used to enter sites or peek corners before you peek yourself. While the enemy is trying to suppress Wingman to avoid his concussion, you can pick them off. Using Wingman to plant or defuse also cuts down on the danger of doing so yourself and can give you intel on where the enemy is hiding if they take Wingman out.
- Dizzy is best used to peek before making a move. Also, try to get as much height on the throw as you can. If your opponent is looking up to try to take Dizzy out, this will make them a sitting duck.
- Mosh is good at clearing entry points and delaying enemy pushes due to the large area it covers.
- Thrash can cover a lot of ground, so it is best used on long maps or hallways.
That’s all for Gekko. Hopefully, this guide can help get you started with the new agent, so you can put him to the test. The more you play with him, the more creative you will become with his versatile utility, so test him out and see what works best for you.
