Hailing from Mexico, this agent can be a terrifying soloist. Though she can be a complex character to master, Reyna’s kit is still debatably great for beginners, especially those who get themselves into tricky situations. Her Leer ability can be used as a perfect distraction, her devour charges can help heal or make a quick escape, and her ultimate can help build confidence by rewarding the player for each kill. Reyna is great for beginner players looking to be good soloists, and this article will help dive into her abilities a little further.
Devour (Q Ability)
With this ability, enemies killed by Reyna leave behind Soul Orbs that last 3 seconds. If a nearby soul orb is consumed, it will rapidly heal for a short time. Health gained through this ability exceeding 100 will decay over time. If Empress (Reyna’s Alt) is active, this skill will automatically cast and not consume the orb.
This skill is used mainly to gain an advantage against enemies after a successful duel. This can be helpful to new players in learning when to push or peek as it gives them a chance to recover if they play too aggressively.
When using this ability, make sure to maximize the value. When this ability is used, it will tether you to the soul orb with a long purple line that will lead right to you. Breaking off the line of sight with the orb will cause the healing to stop, and the ability will be spent. If you struggle with 1v1s, it may be better to use this ability when you have some range on the opponent.
Dismiss (E Ability)
Instantly consume a nearby soul orb and become intangible for a short duration with this ability. If Empress is active, Reyna will also become invisible. Like Devour, this ability is mainly used to gain an advantage against enemies after a successful duel. Dismiss will keep Reyna safe from damage and increase her movement speed. This ability can be used to disengage from dangerous situations or to reposition yourself for a better advantage in a fight.
The drawback to this ability is it prevents Reyna from using any other abilities or drawing her weapon while in this form. It lasts for approximately two seconds. You can cancel the ability early if necessary, but be aware of your surroundings. If you’re caught in the open while coming out of Dismiss, there is a strong chance the enemy will catch you before you can draw your weapon. Dismiss can also be used strategically to peek through doorways without exposing yourself to harm, which can assist with aggressive gameplay with little risk.
Both Devour and Dismiss share the same charges, so it may take some practice to decide which one to use in certain situations. Devour is great because it gives you a chance to heal and can exceed the max HP, and Dismiss is excellent as a repositioning ability giving you a chance to escape.
Both abilities require soul orbs, and these orbs are only gained after a successful kill.
Leer (C Ability)
This ability equips an ethereal destruction eye. Activate to cast the eye a short distance forward. The eye will nearsight all enemies who look at it. It can be cast through walls, and it lasts for three seconds. This ability can be shot down easily, but it can help pinpoint the direction of enemies when Leer is shot.
Using Leer when enemies peek can cause the enemy to retreat, focus fire on the eye, or try to win a duel blind. Disorienting the enemy will give you an advantage, and if paired with Devour, you can gain some health after taking down your opponent.
It’s best to use Leer where the enemy will have to choose between you and the eye. Using it against larger groups is not recommended as the eye can be easily taken down, leaving you exposed.
Empress (Ultimate / X Ability)
Reyna’s Ult allows her to enter a frenzied state, dramatically increasing her firing, equip, and reloading speed. Empress lasts for thirty seconds, however, scoring a kill renews the duration.
While this ability is active, you also get the chance to use Devour or Dismiss. If Devour is active, a kill will automatically cast the skill without consuming a soul orb. If Dismiss is active, Reyna will become invisible after getting a kill. This is perfect for beginners because each kill rewards them with a special perk.
Unlike some other duelists who have abilities that can secure kills on their own, Reyna’s ult requires aim and good decision-making to maximize her ultimate’s power. Using this ability at the start of a match can be better, so be sure to choose a weapon that can help support your power. The Judge, Phantom, Spectre, and Odin are all great weapons taken to another level when you enter Empress.
Tips and Tricks
- Devour and Dismiss are used to gain an advantage after a successful duel by either healing or repositioning—shared charges on both skills.
- Leer is used mainly to blind enemies
- Dismiss is great when Empress is active
- Judge, Phantom, Spectre, and Odin are the ideal weapons when planning on using Empress
Reyna is a great character and ideal for beginners because she can heal or evade with successful kills. In addition, she can help you learn how to create advantages for yourself when dueling. However, she lacks a lot of utility, so if you’re not comfortable being aggressive, be sure to communicate and rely on your teammates for support. She takes some getting used to and doesn’t synergize well with other agents, but if you’re looking for a duelist that rewards you for playing, Reyna may be your choice.
