Valorant has quickly distinguished itself as a leader in inclusive esports, particularly through its Game Changers initiative: a platform dedicated to elevating women and marginalized genders. Launched in 2021 by Riot Games, Game Changers offers a high-end, structured competition and high visibility. Valorant currently has one of the highest female player rates in the shooter genre at ~15% of its 18.5 million players (data from 2023).

Context

Valorant, Riot Games’ tactical first-person shooter, has seen a significant rise in its female player base. This demographic shift is partly attributed to the Game Changers program, which offers structured competitions, visibility, and opportunities for women in esports. The 2024 championship, held at the Riot Games Arena, featured 10 teams and a $500,000 prize pool, highlighting the scene’s growing prominence and professionalism.

Record viewership
  • 2024 Game Changers Championship in Berlin hit a peak of 460,297 concurrent viewers and averaged ~123k, amassing over 6.18 million watch hours across 50 broadcast hours. It remains the most-watched Game Changers event ever and one of the top 10 Valorant events of 2024.
  • This marks a ~57% increase in peak viewership compared to 2023 (~293k)
  • EMEA’s 2025 Stage 1 saw ~21k peak viewers and ~6.2k average, totaling 318k hours over five weeks

Valorant’s Global rise
  • Valorant topped competitive shooters on Twitch in 2024 with 804 million viewing hours.
  • The 2025′ Masters Bangkok’ event peaked at an astounding ~1.3 million concurrent viewers, showcasing Valorant’s global momentum.
